Webcams

Theia's lenses work well in many webcam and remote monitoring applications. All Theia's lenses are multimegapixel resolution allowing the user control the image as they wish by digitally panning and zooming the image (with the proper webcam control software).

When a wide field of view is required, Theia's SL183 and wider lenses provide a sense of being at the scene. The patented Linear Optical Technology® that allows the lenses to provide an ultra wide field of view without barrel distortion also give the image higher resolution at the image edges, an advantage when looking at linear scenes such as a street or square.

For those applications where the camera must be a long way from the scene, Theia's SL940 telephoto varifocal lens allows the viewer to see a long distance away. The focal length can be adjusted to optimize the field of view.

This latest exmple of Theia's lens in a webcam was installed on the NYU campus to monitor the nest of a red tailed hawk family. Since April 2013, there have been fledgling hawks in the nest. In this application, it is important to be very close to the nest while still seeing a very wide field of view. Visit the live webcam to see more.

Theia's ultra wide angle lenses are great for applications where there is limited distance from the subject. As an example, check out the great blue herons on the Cornell ornithology lab heron-cam. Here the camera is restricted to be close to the heron's nesting site so a wide angle lens captures the entire scene. Visit the live webcam to see more.

The Strand National Historic Landmark District was the heart of Galveston in the late 1800s and early 1900s when its star was bright and it was full of great promise, the "New York of Texas." Theia's lenses were selected by Galveston.com - the official tourism website of Galveston, Texas to capture the action. The webcams receive tens of thousands of views a day. Visit the live webcam to see more.

Theia's SY125 lens was chosen for one of the cameras used to record Toshiba's Space Chair project. The lens survived several flights on a weather balloon, flying up to almost 100,000 feet altitude. Toshiba used the video in a TV ad in 2010.

NOAA is studying the melting of the north pole ice cap. Every year in winter, a weather station is installed at the north pole including cameras to watch teh melting of the ice. In the summer, the ice under the camera installation melts and the entire apparatus sinks. Theia's lens was installed in the weather station in 2008 and survived temperatures down to -20°C.
